The exceptional human quality of Ted Simon, together with his original points of view and his wise perception of the world make, in our opinion, very difficult to write a typical biographical review. And all its "ordinary" merits are eclipsed by its magical storytelling, as full of honesty as it is humility. So, after much reflection, we have found that saying he studied chemical engineering, began his journalism career at the Continental Daily Mail in Paris, or served in the RAF says little about Ted Simon. What does say a lot about him becomes clear after reading this book, which has become, in all fairness, an icon of great travel. And it is that the World has passed through Ted, not Ted through the World. Something that few mortals can aspire to.
